How is it a multi-vitamin if it only has B vitamins and Vitamin C?
While B Vitamins and Vitamin C are the main vitamins in this formula that have been extracted from whole foods, we’ve included alfalfa as a whole food source of the rest of the vitamins. As a whole food ingredient that is rich in many vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, enzymes, etc., it makes this formula a true multivitamin that should be used on a daily basis.
If you’re looking for every vitamin to be called out individually on the supplement facts chart, that requires creating a synthetic product because only synthesized or synthetic vitamins and minerals can exist outside of their natural food source. The reason a vitamin or mineral is listed individually on a supplement facts chart is because it’s been added as an isolated nutrient into the formula.
Reminder: Vitamin D isn’t a vitamin, it’s a hormone that’s produced by your body, hence, wouldn’t be included in a multivitamin that’s natural. Therefore, to supplement Vitamin D naturally, we need to source the hormone from another body that has produced it.
In this case, that’s from the liver of a wild caught Norwegian Cod.
Why don’t you make a “real” multivitamin and have all the vitamins in the same bottle?
We understand this question and believe that it represents two main concerns:
- Convenience: You’re used to shopping for multivitamins that have all vitamins in one dose.
- Cost: You feel that if all the vitamins are in one product, you’re saving money by not having to buy multiple products.
This makes perfect sense in the standard supplement market, where convenience and cost are the primary competitive points.
But NuSpecies competes on a different stage. Although we always strive to keep convenience and cost in mind, we put product performance and results first in our formulation process.
Because isn’t that what taking a supplement is all about anyway? You want to supplement the nourishment that your body isn’t getting from your diet or lifestyle. This means your supplement has to actually provide nutrients that are useful to your body.
In order to give you this result, NuSpecies employs the following standards:
- We source ingredients that are the actual plant or herb itself or a vitamin that is extracted from food. We don’t use vitamins or minerals that are synthetic (completely man made). This allows your body to recognize the ingredient and utilize it fully without any digestive burden or damage to your health.
- We use a unique cold processing method that doesn’t expose our plants, herbs, or vitamins to temperatures above 118 degrees. At those temperatures, the heat sensitive nutrients are damaged, rendering them ineffective as nourishment. The nutrients are protected during NuSpecies’ manufacturing process.
- We formulate the product so that you’re getting at least 100% of the recommended daily value for that nutrient in each dose. Many multivitamin products that include all the vitamins, don’t provide the necessary daily amount of those vitamins in each dose.
The products that result from following these standards are different from what you’re used to:
- Most of our formulas end up being made completely from whole food ingredients, which is the most biologically appropriate delivery system for nutrients.
- When we do sell vitamins that have been extracted from their natural food source, you get some vitamins that are water soluble and some that are fat soluble, which means we have to bottle them separately.
The good news is that you don’t have to give up on convenience and cost, you just need to think about them differently than you're used to:
Convenience
- Your body is going to be completely relieved of the digestive burden of breaking down difficult tablets and capsules and/or processing synthetic nutrients through its system.
- You're also getting more nutrients, more easily. By using our raw, whole food, plant based formulas you’re getting far more nutrients from nature than you could ever get in a manmade version.
Cost
- In NuSpecies B-Vitamins Complex with Vitamin C (multivitamin formula) you’re getting over 100% of the recommended daily value of each nutrient in every dose, plus with the added alfalfa, you’re getting a whole host of other vitamins and minerals. You don’t actually need to buy another product unless you know you have a vitamin d, vitamin a, or vitamin e deficiency that you’re monitoring.
- Only buy the vitamin d, vitamin a, or vitamin e when you need them!
Is it Vegan?
Our cyanocobalamin (B12) is produced by bacterial fermentation, so there is no animal flesh or animal secretions in our formula. Depending on the scope of the values that drive your vegan lifestyle you may consider that an animal by-product.
Can this be taken with my current medications/preexisting condition(s)?
Yes, this is a daily multi-vitamin for the whole family and will not interact with any other medications or pre-existing conditions. In fact, it may even help your body manage their side effects!
If I already take a multi-vitamin, should I take this along with it?
No, this product can replace your current multi-vitamin.
If you’re already taking NuSpecies’ LNu formula, you don’t need to take this product as the LNu formula already contains the b-complex, vitamin c, and alfalfa.
Why is it sweet?
Our products are formulated with natural vegetable glycerin. The vegetable glycerin keeps the enzymes in our raw ingredients alive. The vegetable glycerin will not have an effect on blood sugar or A1C.
Why is my urine neon yellow?
We’re often asked by clients who take this formula if their neon urine is caused by their body excreting the excess b-vitamins that it didn’t need. The common worry is that they’re wasting money if their body isn’t using what they're taking.
The good news is that this is a misconception. When B Vitamins are well used by your body the neon yellow color of your urine is the natural by-product.
When you see neon yellow urine, it’s proof that the b-vitamins have properly circulated around your body and depending on how fast your urine turns yellow, it will show you how easy it was for your body to make use of the vitamins.
In fact, if your urine doesn't turn yellow, you need to take more b-vitamins.
Why are the b-vitamins listed with the chemical names if your products are natural?
Firstly, it’s important to mention that there is no official definition of the word natural provided by the FDA. Every company is left to determine what natural means to them.
NuSpecies has adopted the strictest standards for the sourcing of our ingredients and the making of our products. Supplements are by nature secondary to eating actual food to get your nutrition, so we strive to make our supplements as close to nature as a supplement can be.
NuSpecies formulas are made from plants and herbs, vitamins extracted from whole foods, vegetable glycerine, vegetable capsules and in some of the powdered or encapsulated products there are additional non-nutritional, health-neutral ingredients that support the delivery of the product. We consider this as natural as can be achieved for supplements.
But we get it, seeing a bunch of scientific words on the label of a food product can feel scary, so this is why b-vitamins have chemical names:
All vitamins that exist outside of a food or plant are either:
- Synthesized: This means the vitamin has been extracted from a food or plant and stabilized with a chemical that allows it to exist independently without oxidizing. This stabilizer chemical has no health impact on the body and allows the vitamin to be delivered into the bloodstream and used by the body. This naturally sourced vitamin has been synthesized. This is the form that NuSpecies uses.
- Synthetic: This means the vitamin was made by humans in a lab and never came from a food or plant at all. This man made vitamin is synthetic.
Therefore, the only way to consume a natural vitamin is by eating the food that contains that vitamin, which we agree is the best way to get your vitamins.
What we also know to be true is that with modern agricultural practices and modern lifestyles, even the organic practices, it’s almost impossible to get all of the necessary nutrients you need from food alone.
With that being said, you’ll need some form of supplementation and there are some excellent ways to supplement, even if second to nature, and unfortunately, many unhealthy ways. Luckily, it’s perfectly safe and effective to utilize our b-vitamins complex in their synthesized forms. This is especially true because:
- We include the full b-complex. Your body needs all the b-vitamins in proportion to each other, so it’s always best to take them as a complex rather than individually. When you take vitamins individually you’re giving yourself a scientist’s responsibility. Are you a scientist?
- We also add alfalfa which is a nutritionally dense plant that also provides a lot of b-vitamins and supports the absorption of the formula as a whole.
If you still prefer to avoid any synthesized cobalamin for now, you have another option.
Take a raw, whole food powder b-vitamin supplement along with NuSpecies’ probiotic, Lactobacillus acidophilus.
These 120 strains of friendly bacteria will produce B12 in your gut, the natural way. We don’t need to consume B12, we need to consume plants and friendly bacteria that will produce it for us! Side note: A healthy gut microbiome will also produce vitamin K.

Are there any side effects from taking NuSpecies’ B-Vitamins?
Although rare and not dangerous, few people experience the following temporary symptoms:
Niacin Flush
When taking B-Vitamins you may experience what is commonly known as the Niacin flush. Niacin (B3) temporarily stimulates your blood to flow close to the skin. This can cause a warm/hot, itchy sensation usually on the scalp, neck, face, arms, or hands. This is completely normal and healthy, and usually only lasts a few minutes. It happens rarely and for those it does happen to, it doesn’t happen every time B-Vitamins are taken.
Palpitations
Because B-Vitamins stimulate blood flow, on rare occasions when a client has started to use them for the first time, they’ve reported temporarily experiencing palpitations. If this happens, just lower the dose and slowly increase back to the suggested dose over a week or two to give your body time to adjust.
Cyanocobalamin vs. Methylcobalamin?
We are very happy to address this topic and the related questions below.
But before you take yourself down this rabbit hole, here’s a shortcut that if it satisfies you, will save you a lot of time and stress.
Shortcut
- Methylcobalamin is made by starting with cyanocobalamin. “...a process for producing methylcobalamin by reducing cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin in the presence of a reducing agent, and then methylating the reductant by adding a water-soluble methylating agent.” This European patent is one of the several sources I found with a quick google search. Please do your own research.
- If you research to find that methylcobalamin is bad or good for you, you’ll find it.
- If you research to find that cyanocobalamin is bad or good for you, you’ll find it.
- If you research to find that methylcobalamin is better than cyanocobalamin or vice versa, you’ll find it.
- The participation of cyanide in the complex chemical reactions that occur when the body breaks down cyanocobalamin is completely safe and has no relation to how cyanide is used as a poison.
- The major studies by respected organizations that our scientists have relied on for the last 40 years are focused on cyanocobalamin and all show its safety and effectiveness for treating many conditions in addition to Vitamin B12 deficiency.
- Our scientists and herbalists that make our products have successfully and safely used cyanocobalamin for 40 years and NuSpecies has used it in the same manner in our formulas since 2007.
Immediate solution

Now onto the FAQs relating to cyanocobalamin:
Why do you use cyanocobalamin in your formula? Isn’t that the synthetic version of Vitamin B12?
To answer this question properly we need to establish some baseline information first:
- All vitamins that exist outside of a food or plant are either:
- Synthesized: This means the vitamin has been extracted from a food or plant and stabilized with a chemical that allows it to exist independently without oxidizing. This stabilizer chemical has no health impact on the body and allows the vitamin to be delivered into the bloodstream and used by the body. This naturally sourced vitamin has been synthesized. This is the form that NuSpecies uses.
- Synthetic: This means the vitamin was made by humans in a lab and never came from a food or plant at all. This man made vitamin is synthetic. We suggest that you avoid supplements made with synthetic nutrients.
With that being said, you’ll need some form of supplementation and NuSpecies has formulated excellent, safe and effective ways to do so.
- Cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin can both be synthesized or synthetic forms of vitamin B12. Neither one is “natural” because B12 in its natural form is called cobalamin and is found in food or your own gut microbiome will produce it when you eat a lot of vegetables and feed the healthy bacteria in your gut.
- The good news - Whether the vitamin is synthesized is not what will cause your vitamins to be ineffective or harmful. The real issue is whether your vitamins have been exposed to heat. If any form of cobalamin has been exposed to temperatures in excess of 118 degrees then it’s damaged and ineffective and it won’t matter whether the vitamin is still in its natural plant home or has been synthesized or is synthetic.
- The bad news - This is standard in the supplement industry as most supplement manufacturers practice a “kill step” that uses high temperatures to kill any bacteria that may be present in the product. This also kills the heat sensitive nutrients like vitamins. Cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin are equally affected by heat and will be equally ineffective after that manufacturing process is complete.
- More good news - NuSpecies formulas are cold processed, meaning, we don’t use a “kill step” in our manufacturing that requires heat that would kill the ingredients, so all the vitamins in our formulas are alive and well and ready to take action in your body.
But isn’t cyanocobalamin dangerous because it contains cyanide?
No.
The participation of cyanide in the complex chemical reactions that occur when the body breaks down cyanocobalamin is completely safe and has no relation to how cyanide is used as a poison. Cyanide here is just a molecule, absolutely not a poison.
Did you know oxygen can kill you? Hydrogen on its own is a flammable gas. When these elements are in safe amounts or are bonded with other elements, they are necessary for life. The chemical structure of the cyanide found in cyanocobalamin and how it breaks down during the digestion process is harmless.
If you’re really concerned about cyanide poisoning, please research exactly how cyanocobalamin breaks down in the body. You can also look at all the foods that have perfectly safe, naturally occurring levels of cyanide in them.
Isn’t methylcobalamin safer than cyanocobalamin?
Although there is a ton of information on the internet about this, it doesn’t trump the large body of science that says the opposite. Additionally, methylcobalamin is made by starting with cyanocobalamin.
CONCLUSION
As far as we can tell from our research, they do not have a different impact on the body and they’re both acceptable forms of cobalamin for supplementation purposes if safely manufactured.
If you just prefer to avoid any synthesized cobalamin for now, take NuSpecies’ whole food b-vitamins.
